Air Fryer Omelette

  • Prep Time: 5 Minutes

  • Cook Time: 8–10 Minutes

  • Total Time: 15 Minutes

  • Cooking Intensity / Difficulty Level: Very Easy (Beginner Friendly)

  • Heat Setting / Air Fryer Temperature: 350°F (175°C)

  • Servings: 1 to 2 servings

Why Cook an Omelette in an Air Fryer?

  1. Zero Flipping Required: Say goodbye to folded omelettes that tear in half or turn into scrambled eggs when you try to flip them in a skillet. The circular hot air circulation cooks the omelette evenly from both top and bottom.

  2. Hands-Free Cooking: Once you slide the basket in, you have 8 minutes to clean up, pour your coffee, or toast your bread.

  3. Puffier Texture: The high-speed hot air trapped inside the air fryer chamber traps micro-bubbles in beaten eggs, giving you a cloud-like, soufflé-adjacent texture.

  4. Healthier & Low Oil: Requires just a quick misting of olive oil or non-stick cooking spray.

Equipment Needed

  • Air Fryer: Basket or oven style.

  • Baking Dish or Silicone Mold: A 6-inch or 7-inch cake pan, pie dish, or heat-safe silicone cake mold that fits comfortably inside your air fryer basket with room for air circulation.

  • Whisk or Fork: For aerating the eggs.

  • Mixing Bowl: For whisking ingredients.

  • Parchment Paper (Optional): Cut to fit your pan for ultra-easy cleanup.

Ingredients

Base Omelette

  • 3 Large Eggs (preferably at room temperature)

  • 1 tbsp Heavy Cream or Whole Milk (adds moisture and creaminess)

  • 1 tbsp Unsalted Butter or Olive Oil (for greasing the pan)

  • ¼ tsp Salt (to taste)

  • ⅛ tsp Black Pepper (freshly cracked)

Fresh Fillings & Mix-Ins

  • ¼ cup Shredded Cheddar or Mozzarella Cheese (divided)

  • 2 tbsp Diced Bell Peppers (red, yellow, or green)

  • 2 tbsp Diced Tomatoes (seeds removed to prevent extra moisture)

  • 2 tbsp Baby Spinach (chucked or coarsely chopped)

  • 2 tbsp Cooked Ham, Bacon, or Turkey (diced)

Garnish (Optional)

  • 1 tbsp Fresh Chives or Green Onions (finely chopped)

  • 1 tbsp Fresh Parsley (chopped)

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Preheating & Prep

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 3 to 5 minutes. Preheating ensures even heat distribution as soon as the egg mixture hits the pan.

  2. Generously grease your 6-inch air-fryer-safe pan or silicone mold with butter, olive oil spray, or non-stick cooking spray. (If using a metal pan, lining the bottom with a small round of parchment paper ensures flawless removal.)

Step 2: Whisk the Eggs

  1. Crack the 3 large eggs into a medium mixing bowl.

  2. Add 1 tbsp of heavy cream or milk, ¼ tsp salt, and ⅛ tsp black pepper.

  3. Whisk vigorously for about 45 to 60 seconds until the mixture is uniform, fully combined, and slightly frothy on top. Incorporating air into the eggs at this stage is key to getting a fluffy texture!

Step 3: Mix in Your Fillings

  1. Stir in your chosen mix-ins: the diced bell peppers, chopped tomatoes, cooked ham/bacon, chopped spinach, and half of the shredded cheese (about 2 tablespoons).

  2. Save the remaining 2 tablespoons of cheese for the topping at the end.

Step 4: Air Fry (Intensity: Medium Heat)

  1. Carefully pour the egg and filling mixture into your prepared baking dish.

  2. Place the dish carefully inside the preheated air fryer basket.

  3. Air fry at 350°F (175°C) for 6 to 8 minutes.

    • Note: Do not open the basket for the first 5 minutes to allow the steam to build up and puff up the eggs.

Step 5: Add Top Cheese & Finish Cooking

  1. At the 7-minute mark, pull the basket out carefully. The edges should be set and slightly golden, with the center still soft or slightly wobbly.

  2. Sprinkle the remaining 2 tablespoons of cheese evenly over the top of the omelette.

  3. Return to the air fryer and cook for an additional 1 to 2 minutes until the top cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly browned, and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 6: Serve and Enjoy

  1. Carefully remove the hot baking dish from the air fryer basket using silicone tongs or oven mitts.

  2. Run a flexible butter knife or silicone spatula around the outer edges of the pan to loosen the omelette.

  3. Slide or lift the omelette onto a warm serving plate.

  4. Garnish with chopped chives, green onions, or fresh parsley. Serve hot alongside toasted sourdough bread, sliced avocado, or fresh fruit!

Chef’s Tips for Success

  • Don’t Overfill the Pan: Keep your mix-ins total to about ½ cup max. Too many heavy fillings will weigh down the eggs, preventing them from rising and puffing up.

  • Pre-Cook Raw Meats: Air fryer cooking times are short, so ensure meat ingredients (bacon, sausage, ham) are cooked beforehand.

  • Check Your Pan Size: Ensure your baking pan fits with at least ½-inch space around the perimeter inside your air fryer basket so air can flow properly underneath and around it.

Delicious Variations to Try

  1. Mediterranean Delight: Feta cheese, kalamata olives, diced tomatoes, spinach, and a pinch of dried oregano.

  2. Veggie Lover’s: Diced mushrooms, bell peppers, red onion, baby spinach, and goat cheese.

  3. Loaded Western: Cooked ham, green bell peppers, diced onions, and sharp cheddar cheese.
